Second off I noticed using the latest 1.0beta3 snapshot that 'pie_hover' is added on mouse enter/leave. I was using suckerfish-type code to do this (for dropdown menus) and changed to pie_hover and (of course!) it worked perfectly.
So I hacked PIE to add/remove a 'pie_focus' on focus/blur (using it to set border/background on input/textarea), just copying the hover code that's there already, and it also worked.
Leaving me with no IE-specific js anywhere, except in PIE (am also using pie-png-fix which works brilliantly also).
So this might be something worth considering.
