In IE7 and in IE8 Compatibility Mode, this page renders fine. In IE8, the large image in the body loses its drop shadow.

I've tried everything I can think of to get this one working, down to wrapping the image in a div and applying the styles to that, and I haven't come up with any solutions. Stranger still, if I apply a border, the border works until PIE kicks in, at which point it vanishes.

The reason it works in IE7 but not IE8 is because the two versions of IE treat the default z-index of position:absolute differently; IE7 incorrectly treats it as a new z-index stacking context whereas IE8 does not.

Could have sworn I tried putting position:relative on .dropShadowBody but I'll try the z-index one. Thanks.
